A resident at The Elms care home has marked an extraordinary milestone, celebrating her 102nd birthday with fellow residents, staff and loved ones this week.
Joan Finch, who now lives at the home in Bembridge, enjoyed a special day in her honour as she reached her 102nd year.
Born and raised in St John’s Wood in London, Joan attended Barrow Junior School where she developed a love for literature and dressmaking.
Before the outbreak of World War II, she began her working life in a hospital as a surgical appliance technician.
In 1970, Joan married her late partner Roy in Seaview on the Isle of Wight. Over the years, she has developed a fondness for the Island, with Ventnor Botanical Gardens among her favourite places.
Joan has enjoyed a number of hobbies throughout her life, including making wedding dresses, gardening, cooking and walking.
To mark the occasion, staff at The Elms prepared a birthday cake, while Joan received cards and flowers from family and friends.
Fellow residents and staff joined together to celebrate the milestone, helping to make the day a memorable one for the much-loved resident.
