Deep flood water across Morton Common in Brading has forced the closure of the main Ryde to Sandown road once again. The Eastern Yar has swollen following further torrential downpours of rain both yesterday and overnight into this morning. Island Roads has taken the decision to close the road in both directions between Yarbridge and Perowne Way/Avenue Road. Motorists are now having to divert via Yaverland and Culver Parade. Southern Vectis says that its Route 2 and 3 buses will divert via Yaverland in both directions. The Environment Agency states that flooding will continue to affect low-lying land in the coming days. They are operating Bembridge sluice so that water is able to flow out to sea between high tides, but this hasn’t stopped the area around Morton flooding.
