A single crew from East Cowes dealt with a fire in the open earlier on today (Thursday) after smoke could be seen filling the air. 

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to Minerva Road in East Cowes at around 15:30 after a member of public reported a bonfire that was causing the immediate area to fill with smoke

A spokesperson for East Cowes Fire Station has said:

“H73P1 called to Minerva Road, to bonfire causing lots of smoke in the area.

“Please think of others when considering bonfires, the smoke if full of carcinogenic substances that can affect people’s health.”

 If you are conducting a controlled burn, contact Hampshire Fire Control on 02031 620063, to prevent unnecessary callouts.
