East Cowes’ Central Store is to close later this month it has been announced. The store located on Well Road – just a stone’s throw from both The Co-op and Waitrose – is to close permanently on the 12th August. As well as boasting a wide range of foodstuffs and beverages, the store was also home to a Post Office. The nearest spot to drop off your parcels in the North Wight town is now at another Central at Osborne Garage. It is understood that staff members have already given notices of redundancy. Upon hearing the news, East Cowes Town Councillor Karl Love took to Facebook, saying:
“This will come as a shock to many people. “I will be raising the issue at the next East Cowes Town Council meeting as it is a very important community asset. I will keep you informed of any ongoing developments.

If it’s not making a profit, that’s the end of that. Simple economics, Total sympathy for the lovely staff in there.
Should have voted Reform, as with so many cut backs for British people needed to fund the massive cost of a never ending amount of people arriving here daily, ordinary workers have less to spend.
Or did YOU think that the rich and elite were going to fund the daily ‘arrivals’ costs?
Think next time and vote accordingly.
Still nice to see they are respectful and grateful and don’t treat our children like something nasty on the bottom of their shoe, what with Rotherham, Rochester and now Liverpool and countless individual vile crimes against those who have given equal rights and often even more.
See the light.
oh dear no, this is becoming a ghost island….all these shops shutting down.
Its so sad, the towns look so dejected and run down and this will just add to it.
People being made redundant, what’s happening.
What’s happened, is Labour were voted in.
Tis what happens, more unemployed, more imms’, more crime, more wealthy leave the UK to be replaced with endless poor to add to the so called poverty struck already here.
WHAT did you ‘expect’.
Reform would have slowed the inevitable rot, too late now. Watch, and some perhaps will learn, albeit too late to change, whilst the majority will ‘blame’ those who could see the way forward but were branded ‘vile’ and nasty for trying to sort out the obvious disaster coming.
Whilst this one shop is nothing to do with such, as yet, riots, businesses failing as money is taken from the people to give to those who ought not be here will see countless businesses fold. The wealthy won’t invest now
Good to see Karl speaking up ! (As long as it’s not a county council matter, then you don’t hear a word from him).
IT IS A VERY HANDY SHOP, REALLY SORRY FOR THE STAFF
Regularly use the Post Office. Hope it is relocated.
Handy how?
It’s more expensive than both Waitrose and the COOP ( a feat unto itself) and has the interior appearance of a 1980’s , and stock, Soviet block country.
The staff were always great, and I’m glad to hear they have been reassigned.
Have they been reassigned?
Prices in this shop are not competitive at all , and with people really finding it difficult to manage they will go elsewhere no other choice I’m afraid
I love how town councillors think that have any say or authority… what’s he thinking that the team in charge of these shops sat in their head office in London read this and go well if the councillor is involved we must stay open??? Why doesn’t the town council do something for us locals and open a shop with a post office and see how much it costs to run fighting against the other shops?? Muppets the lot of them!!
Word of warning ..Post Office is not accessible until Tuesday, even for parcel collection and despite staff in store.
I found out the hard way.
No one can manage the post office until they have been vetted, after that is when the training begins
ust agree with staff comment ,BUT re post office . !! ha ha I called into the garage today to post a letter for recorded delivery .Apart from blocking a pump NOT one place for parking could have gone to pub .Not well thought through. let us hope new owner is allowed to ,And wants to re start with post services,
Great. Cashless society here we come. I’m so embarrassed to come from East Cowes reading the comments below Does everyone read the sun now? It used to be such a friendly place.
