A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of importing Class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon following an incident in Cowes on Saturday afternoon.
As first reported by Island Echo, a large number of officers rushed to the Traveller’s Joy pub on Pallance Road following 999 reports that a man was spotted carrying a weapon, described as a machete.
Police rushed to the scene at just before 17:30 and a search of Cowes was carried out, but the suspect got away.
Now, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a 23-year-old from the Isle of Wight has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive and affray. Furthermore, he has been arrested on suspicion of 2 counts of improper importation of goods, namely controlled drugs of Class A.
He remains in police custody at this time.
UPDATE TUESDAY – The 23-year-old has been released under investigation, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed.
I own up, I was wrong. He was a criminal with a weapon.
Who the HELL is selling Machetes and WHY.
Remove and fine anyone selling them…that would be a start.
Why would anyone need one??
You can buy them on the Web as they are not classed as a weapon and are used to clear bushes etc, just like you can go to b and q and start swinging round axes if you wish.
There is nothing wrong with owning these types of tools, I use one regularly in my garden. It’s not the tool or weapon, it’s the person using it. Stop nutters being able to own them would be a good start.
But how would a store do that? A person can seem quite OK whilst purchasing such goods. Were you questionned as to your mental health when you bought one? No!! So rather a silly comment from you.
