A Sandown man who was found to be driving whilst under the influence of drugs near Wightlink’s Fishbourne ferry terminal has been banned from the roads for 14 months. Andrew Oxley, 54, of Wilkes Road, admitted drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday). Munayah Hassan, prosecuting, told the court that on 13th October last year, officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary stopped Oxley in his Vauxhall on Fishbourne Lane. Upon being stopped, a roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive reading for both cocaine and cannabis. Further samples taken at Newport Police Station found a level of Benzoylecgonine – the breakdown product of cocaine – of 480ug/l. Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client was registered disabled and that the strong medication he was taking as a result may have had an effect on the readings. Magistrates handed Oxley – who was last convicted in 2011 – a 14-month driving ban. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.

He’s been caught. convicted, banned and fined. No need for clamouring with pitchforks is there? Pulling his nails out with pliers is not an option, nor is deportation to Rwanda. Them’s the rules. Get over it, and yourselves.
But banning doesn’t always work Karen. You simply ‘borrow’ a friend’s car. It can pass straight through ANPR cameras and if the car is taxed and tested there is no reason for the system to red flag it and they can carry on as normal. If eventually they were caught, they’d just receive another ban. If you lock him up it’ll cost the tax payer about £850 a week to keep him there, where cannabis and cocaine is still probably available. However, a one way ticket to Rwanda is currently around £550… 🙂
Drink or drug drivers need banging up.
‘Oxley – who was last convicted in 2011’
Must be a coincidence then that another Andrew Oxley, of Wilkes Road, Sandown was ‘fined £660, and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points. He was ordered to pay costs of £110 and a £264 surcharge’ on September 7, 2023.
So, either there are two Andrew Oxley’s living in the same street in Sandown, or he’s a serial offender.
It’s a small world
His defence was pants. I would have said, ‘my client was on his way to Portsmouth and mistakenly took them as seasick pills’… A far more plausible excuse… 🙂
It’s the whole family…..shame they breed kids and the pattern continues
