A cyclist is being assessed in hospital after being hit by a car during rush hour in Lake this evening (Monday).
Police were called to Newport Road, at the junction with Manor Road, at just gone 18:00.
The driver of the car involved did not await the arrival of emergency services, nor did he exchange details with the casualty.
Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for the driver to come forward and for witnesses to the collision to also make themselves known.
The driver, who ‘did not stop sufficiently’ at the scene, is described as a white male, approximately 60 years of age with white tied back hair, white beard and of scruffy appearance. The involved vehicle could potentially be a Suzuki Vitara.
If you are the driver, or know the identity of the driver, you should contact PC Green on 101.
Anyone who witnessed the collision and can provide further information as to the identity of the vehicle and driver, such as a registration plate, should contact 101 quoting 44200482005.

Was the cycle rider displaying lights? At one time the Police would stop cyclists without such, now it is easier to ‘blame’ the motorist for others faults or carelessness.
YET if the car driver had a faulty light and had an accident ‘they’ would still be blamed.
Typical default reaction from your average car driver, blame the victim. Bicycle in picture quite clearly has lights.
Well the bicycle in the photo has lights but either way for the sake of an injured person he could have at least stopped and checked on the rider! I just dont get it other than the driver was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs! I do hope the cyclist is fine and has suffered no long lasting injuries!
Fully agree TK, not saying the driver shouldn’t have stopped, but some of these teens ride their cycles with no lights and in ill lit LED street lamps, misty damp windows, glare from modern car headlights a bad combi.
Of course the driver should have stopped and as you say likely drugged up, as much of the population is now, HMG would have been better off letting everyone smoke normal cigs, frightened everyone off them onto weed it seems.
I’d be very surprised if the bike in the picture belongs to a teenager as an e- bike of that make costs several thousand pounds.
So you are saying they put lights on the bike just before taking that photo?
The fact that the driver didn’t hang around or swap details tells you all you need to know.
Hmmm, white hair, white beard. Wearing red trousers and coat perhaps, possibly carrying a large sack even? Obviously far too busy to stop this time of year!
I saw a cyclist tonight dressed in black/dark hoodie clothing on a dark coloured bike with no lights so they are about.
Regardless who’s fault it was. Cyclists please wear something bright. The fashion seems that you must be covered head to toe in black racing gear. Not safe on dark wet mornings or when that suns low in the sky. Be safe be seen
More victim blaming.
Of course you did, fits your narrative nicely doesn’t it?
Not only does the bike have excellent lighting, the frame itself is day glo ?! How did You miss this and need to question ? Worryingly unobservant.
@That’s torn it
Cyclists should , by law, have to wear Hi-Vis clothing.
Utter nonsense, how many pedestrians killed by car drivers? Shall we all walk around in hi viz as well ? More victim blaming by car drivers.
