A West Wight road has been closed by Police as a result of a car smashing into an embankment and rolling onto its roof, spreading debris across the carriageway.
The incident, which occurred at around midnight, has taken place on Brook Road, which connects the rural villages of Brighstone and Mottistone.
It is understood the driver of the crashed car fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services, who discovered a vehicle on its roof at the junction with Strawberry Lane.
It’s thought the car was travelling towards Brook when it went wide on a left hand bend, crossing the road and colliding with a bank before rolling around 25m further down the road.
Debris has been left spread across the carriageway, including glass and mud.
A bottle of Corona potentially tells the story.
Island Roads has been informed of the situation with operatives set to be deployed to clear the carriageway to enable the road to reopen.
UPDATE @ 09:50 – Police have confirmed that the occupants of the crashed vehicle, a VW Golf, were not with the car when officers arrived on scene.
However, following further enquiries, officers have located the occupants of the vehicle.
A 25-year-old man from Freshwater reported serious, but not life-changing, injuries to his head and has been treated in hospital.
A second 25 year-old man from Freshwater reported minor injuries.
No arrests have been made at this time and an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances.
Island Echo understands the occupants were drinking in a nearby pub before driving away in the silver VW Golf.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage that could assist with enquiries, to report this to Police by calling 101 and quoting reference 44240454762.

Probably another drink/ drug driver,
if you had nothing to hide as accidents can and do happen you wouldn’t flee the scene in that manner .
still police will have numberplate and soon track the owner ,go get the idiot
I’d be interested to hear what the Corona has to say!
And the car was? Only giving half the story if no car info
So no arrests ..bottle of beer on the ground.
The only way that happened was excessive speed, and drunk or drugged up,and doing a runner yet again proves the lowlife driver has something to hide, like, has he a license in the first place, and has he done runners like this before and not got caught?
is this a prolific drug driver that hasnt been caught yet?
whatever it is,if you do a runner and get caught you deserve all you get as you are a coward.
I have been saying for years there needs to be
STRICT speeding rules on the island
With the Gigabit roll out it should be easy to
roll out islandwide Camera’s
LET’S KEEP OUR ROADS SAFE AND GET IDIOTS
OFF THE ROAD
