Motorists are being told to ‘drive on’ and to not queue on the carriageway outside Lynnbottom Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) as reduced opening hours at the Downend site come into force.
Islanders can now only dump their rubbish at Lynnbottom between the hours of 10:00 and 18:00, which is resulting in lengthy queues on Briddlesford Road.
Signs have been erected on the road telling drivers to keep driving if there is a queue to get into the site.
The situation has already led to fly tipping in the surrounding area, including at Brading Downs this morning (Thursday).
New opening hours came into force on Monday (30th October). The HWRC is now open 10:00-18:00, 7 days a week including Bank Holidays (not Christmas Day).
The Isle of Wight Council is currently seeking your views on the waste and recycling services you currently receive or purchase, as well as considerations for the future. The annual residents survey is now open and will run to Friday 15th December 2017 – https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/IOW_waste_survey_2017.
