A 39-year-old suspected drink driver is in custody after careering a van into a house in East Cowes during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
It was just before 00:30 that emergency services were alerted to reports of a small van having crashed into a terraced property on The Meadow, off Kingslea Park.
Police responded to the scene and quickly ascertained that a male had been behind the wheel.
Due to the nature of the incident, multiple other emergency resources were mobilised, including 3 fire engines, an ambulance and an ambulance officer.
Thankfully, no injuries were sustained and no damage was caused to the property, nor the vehicle. However, a wheelie bin was dented.
Police were able to simply reverse the van back into a parking space.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 39-year-old man from East Cowes was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.
He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.

Jail the piss/snort drivers
Exactly this selfish scum could have killed anybody passing by. Will come out with the usual hard luck story which the courts usually fall for.
Maybe one day it will effect them or their families
then they will issue tougher sentences.
We have become a soft touch.
3 fire engines were sent to deal with the dented wheelie bin! Well done lads.
Un bloody believable..
Overkill on emergency services 3 Fire Engines ???
Obviously nothing else to do, bet they cannot
wait until the pull the fire engine day.
surprised enough is enough hasn’t put in his 2 pence, absolute tool.
yeah another numpty driver lol
I’ll say it before he does.
Thank you. I have just returned from Pompey.
All drink drivers need banging up.
Enough about yourself. Lol
Until we get tough with drink and drug driving
it will NEVER stop.
Ugh… he is the absolute worst! Please someone gag him!!
Another Numpty who doesn’t know right from wrong
Bet I know who you will be voting for in May
Once a Numpty always a Numpty
Clearly an alcoholic, seen him starting fights in Newport the other week. He’s about 4ft tall
I do hope he gets the help he clearly needs
Very dramatic blue light response and reporting. Not really warranted. A dented wheelie bin!! Whoa!! Waste of my time reading this
Best way to combat drink driving carry out breath tests
outside ALL island pubs when numpties have finished
work.
It is shocking the amount of vans outside pubs between the
hours of 4pm – 7pm and then they drive off
Lol
