Power cables brought down across the carriageway as a result of a car crashing into a pole has led to an emergency closure in Freshwater this morning (Saturday).
A white Audi estate has collided head-on into electricity pole on School Green Road at around 09:30, bringing live cables down across the road.
The danger posed to the public has resulted in Police closing the road in both directions.
A cordon is in place.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks have been alerted to the incident with engineers en-route to make safe and repair the damaged pole.
Southern Vectis is advising that its Routes 7 and 12 are on diversion.
Route 7 towards Newport will divert from Heathfield Road via The Avenue and Colwell Road to Yarmouth. Towards Alum Bay, it will divert via Freshwater Bay.
Route 12 towards Newport will divert from The Avenue via Heathfield Road, Colwell Road, Pixely Hill to resume a normal route at Victoria Road. This diversion is operating in both directions.
