In two separate but consecutive incidents, Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat went to the aid of two vessels with engine trouble in the western Solent yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
The volunteer crew’s emergency pagers went off at 14:33 following a call for help to Solent Coastguard from the two person crew of a 30ft boat with engine problems. The Yarmouth lifeboat The Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer) was launched at 14:39 and quickly located the stricken vessel south west of Hurst Castle. Conditions were unfavourable with force 6 winds gusting force 7 from the south west.
The lifeboat took the vessel in tow to the safety of Yarmouth Harbour but was then immediately tasked to go out again to assist a yacht under sail but with engine failure and requiring assistance with their approach and entry into the harbour. The Lifeboat escorted the yacht safely into Yarmouth.
The RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, relies on donations from the public to fund its lifesaving activities. If you would like to support your local lifeboat station, lifeboat tours can be booked through the RNLI’s Yarmouth Shop every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the Summer holidays. You can contact the shop on 01983 761345.
In addition, during Yarmouth Carnival Week, there will also be a demonstration off Yarmouth with the Coastguard Rescue helicopter at 19:00 on Friday 21st August. Visit the website for more information – www.yarmouthlifeboat.org.uk.
