The search is on for new Trustees and Volunteers to become part of Team Isle of Wight Pride.
Work is well underway for this year’s Pride celebration on 15th July 2023, along with activities over the weekend and throughout the year.
Last year, IW Pride returned to Ryde after a 2-year break with a successful 3-day event including a parade, community village and entertainment featuring amazing local artists to a Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist.
Andy Newman, Trustee, said:
“Isle of Wight Pride is made possible by small core team of loyal volunteers and trustees, many who have full time employment and responsibilities, supporting us in their spare time.
“As the saying goes, many hands make light work and we seek to increase the team and bring new skills and ideas to event and how we support the community all year round.
“Everyone is welcome, be it from within the LGBTQIA+ community to Allies. Whatever skills, help on the day or lead up to the big event are all appreciated, from shaking a bucket to organising the event, performing to site decoration. We particularly welcome interest from potential Trustees.”
Hovertravel and Ryde Town Council have confirmed they will continue their support for 2023.
Laura Fraser, Trustee, added:
“Being part of Team Pride promises to be a rewarding experience for everyone and offers some amazing opportunities to get involved. Every offer of help counts, and IW Pride can help find a role to match peoples skills.”

Grow up. Point made. Just try to act as normal people do should you wish to be valued as normal yet different.
Homophobia again on the island
Probably not, people I know who have same sex partners have no time whatsoever for any of this, and I know a few, a couple of which are household names. one quote was “Labels are for tins of dog food” so yet again its the tiny minority who seem to feel the need use their sexuality as an identity? most people are neither interested, or care.
Totally agree Lucas, i know of two couples who both say because of actions of the pride mob their lives are being made more difficult as their behaviour just causes more homophobia and all they want is to be left in peace to live their lives as they want instead of “prancing in fancy dress down Ryde high street”, their words not mine.
“Homophobia” not really. It’s a very simple matter and fact that if you are born with a penis you are male, born with a vagina you are female. There is nothing in between!
Not true, actually. There are a number of people who are born with neither organ, and some who are born with both. What then?
We are talking about the normal not the abnormal.
census data stated that 89% of islanders identify as heterosexual.
so, out of a population of 144,000 about 15,000 are not heterosexual.
if, we are one, inclusive and all the same species, no matter what the race, creed, colour etc.. why is their no “H” in LGBTQ for Heterosexual.
It is somewhat hypocritical of LGBTQ people to preach inclusivity, yet they exclude the majority “H” Heterosexual from their group.
You cannot have inclusivity, if you exclude the majority.
oh and by the way, if you want to be seen as equal to everyone else, then act like everyone else – all those who identify as Heterosexual do not hold a marching parade through town, shoving their sexuality in everyones faces – take the hint.
Get a grip
John – reality has a grip on it rather well – the hypocrisy of the LGBTQ community is breathtaking when they demand equality, yet don’t practice it by excluding the Heterosexuals from their group
So agree with you, well said !
Well, as i am not an “Allie”, i am not welcome ?
A big song an dance to display how different you are but then you cry when people talk about it
Like racism, Homophobia is alive and well on the island. If you don’t like it, just ignore it. Easy to do. Stop posting hate messages here like a little child.
Unbridled desire is the name of Satan’s game, “do what thou wilt” as the saying goes.
The scriptures are clear, and is clarified in the Qur’an, the Christian Bible and the Jewish Bible: they who engage in same sex relations shall forfeit their investment in God’s garden and will be flung into scalding perdition without end; when this transition happens, there is no longer any concept of time, your lodging is fixed.
For a non-sectarian translation of the Qur’an, please look up Sam Gerrans work at quranite.com.
utter drivel
humans have engaged in sexual relations with the same and opposite sex for as long as humans have existed.
it is only these religions that decreed that same sex relations were immoral. Had it not been that these religions gained as much support and subsequent influence over countries in the past, then they would not have been able to make same sex relations illegal and indoctrinated people into believing that narrative.
the ratio of non heterosexuals is about 10% in human society – this has always been the case – the only reason it is more obvious now, is that more of the 10% are being open and upfront about who they are, rather than hiding in fear of being made to suffer, for simply being theirselves.
Um no as its another thing thrown down our throats all year long. In fact it’s boring now
Look at me I’m a laddddyyyyy
