Delays are being experienced on a main route out of Newport this morning (Thursday) as a result of a crash which has seen a BMW career into a hedge.
A single pumping appliance from Newport and Police were first called to the scene on one of the Island’s major roads at around 11:15.
At the scene a white BMW saloon travelling off Racecourse Roundabout toward Newport has somehow careered off the road and into a hedge.
Luckily it appears that the driver – a male – has escaped any serious injury. The damage to the vehicle is minor.
Racecourse remains open under give and take at this time, but motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – Fairlee Road is currently blocked in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicle takes place. It is expected to reopen imminently.

That’ll teach him to welly it in the wet….
I passed this incident. It wasn’t wet. No other car seemed to be involved. I would hazard a guess that either the car developed a fault (unlikely) or the driver was taken ill or distracted. . No doubt the police will determine what happened and take appropriate action.
Another goon can’t drive ..hope po sort him out..
Speeding seems to be a big problem on the island.
I was walking along Regent Street in Shanklin this
afternoon, the speed motorists drive along
Regent Street is shocking.
It’s about time IW Council placed speed humps to
slow motorists down, so many elderly persons
cross this Street.
I would like to see much safer roads on the island.
Bet he was on his phone
