HM Coastguard were called out to reports of a dead dolphin on the beach at Sandown this evening (Friday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to investigate the find near to Sandown Lifeboat Station, between Sandown and Shanklin, at 18:00.
Sadly, it was clear the dolphin had been deceased for some time.
Details of the animal were taken, including measurements.
Dolphins, porpoises and whales are protected under the royal fish laws of the UK. HM Coastguard undertakes duties on behalf of the Receiver of a Wreck to record details of royal fish washed ashore.

How awful. Perhaps once the EU is ousted from our waters, more Dolphins will survive and find more fish to feed upon.
Let’s hope Boris doesn’t cave in to dictators, Churchill never would
shut up Bill.
Betty you are free to leave atm to go live in the utopia of the EU, IF you don’t like the UK being free of such.
I think there might actually be some truth in this though, I’m no marine biologist but there was a string of dolphins found dead/injured back in the summer when a super trawler was near the IOW and it wasn’t the first time it’d happened whilst that particular trawler had been here (it’s apparently banned from Australian waters already for this reason)
I hear the trawlers are back so it definitely could be a link? I wonder if it’s the same trawler again too?
He is sort of right , we have had a lot of E.U. Super trawlers going around the coast of isle of wight and the solent .
7 super trawlers have been reported in just a couple of days
He caved in fast enough to Farago and President Cummings. Who needs dictators when we have a johnson?
Aww this is sad ☹︎ rest in peace lil dophin
Fire up the BBQ
That’s what happens when you travel from a tier 4 area!
