UPDATED: The Isle of Wight’s county town, Newport, has been plunged into a level of darkness tonight (Thursday) as a result of a failure with the street lights.
Most of Newport is without working street lighting at the moment, including outer reaches such as Pan, Carisbrooke and Parkhurst.
Island Echo readers have been reporting the issue since 21:15.
It is currently unclear what has caused the outage, especially with electricity supply still present for homes and businesses.
Island Roads say they are aware of the situation but have not given an estimated time of repair.
UPDATE FRIDAY – The lights came back on at around 23:00 last night, but during the early hours of this morning the town was once again plunged into darkness.
The street lights are said to now be on in the daytime.
