Demolition works have now been completed at Old Park Lodge in St Lawrence, over a year and a half after a significant landslip destroyed the home and left neighbouring properties hanging precariously on the edge.
The large-scale operation marks a major step forward in dealing with the aftermath of March 2024’s dramatic ground movement, which tore through the Undercliff area and rendered at least 1 property uninhabitable. It is said the house moved around 10 metres from its original location due to the shearing force of the landslide.
Following the incident, emergency services were called to the scene and fencing was erected to restrict access to the unstable site. 2 other homes nearby – on Hunts Road – were left in a precarious position too.

Now, the damaged Old Park Lodge has been fully demolished under strict insurance conditions. This included the removal of the main structure, its foundations, and several outbuildings. The work also required the manual sorting of all waste due to the instability of the location.
The land is now being returned to its natural state.
Contractor MB Carpentry & Maintenance Ltd carried out the demolition over several challenging weeks. The company has praised the efforts of its team and thanked supporting firms Cheap Skips IW, Reynolds and Read and AMP Hire for their assistance throughout the project.
