The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is in attendance at a section of cycle track between Newport and Cowes this afternoon (Thursday).
1 appliance has been mobilised to reports of a fire in the open near Dodnor Lane at 17:15.
It’s understood that the fire is small in size and is in the process of being tackled.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – The fire is now out and the crew from Newport have now returned to station.

Bloody stupid ‘half wits’ setting fires. Shame someone doesn’t catch them in the act.
It is stated that it was a small fire out in the open, why do people not throw a bit of dirt over it,or as it is near the river a small container of water, why phone the emergency services and keep wasting there time, typical island mentality!
Can’t do that can we, that would mean taking responsibility for our actions and we can’t do that.
Could have turned into something bigger, bettervto extinguish when small !
Dear Arthur, you really are a sausage aren’t you! That is what I was saying!!!?!
Sorry it might not be half wits, fires can start for a number of different reasons especially when its a warm day
Lightning maybe, or spontanious human combustion!
Arsonists at work again keeps happening recently.
Or it could be kids having fun and building a camp or a den,did you used to have fun Arthur?
