Newport Carnival will return to the streets of the Isle of Wight’s County town this Saturday, with organisers saying this year could be the best yet.
Crowds can look forward to an appearance by The Bournemouth Carnival Band, famously known as “The Spider-Man Band”. Dressed head-to-toe as Spider-Men, their high-energy performances are expected to be one of the highlights of the night.
This year’s procession will feature an eclectic mix that includes tractors and vintage vehicles, royalty floats, school entries, lively community groups, quirky new vehicles, emergency services displays and representation from the Island Games team.
The Spirit of Carnival Rewards will once again recognise those who embrace the true heart of the event, with prizes of £125 for 1st place, £50 for 2nd place and £25 for 3rd place. These awards are sponsored by The Bargeman’s Rest, The Steamer Inn and The Dairyman’s Daughter.
After 2 years of wet and stormy weather, the forecast is looking favourable for the main carnival. Road closures will begin at around 17:00, judging will start at 18:00 and the procession will set off at 19:00.
Organisers have reminded attendees that while the carnival remains free, donations are vital to keeping the tradition alive. Contributions collected on the night cover only 10% of the event’s costs.

These events cost businesses money in lost revenue.
Premature closure and parking restrictions were in place
too early.
I am glad it’s over.
