Police are investigating after 2 laundrettes on the Isle of Wight were broken into, with one now temporarily shut due to ‘beyond repair’ damage.
Over the past few days Newport Laundrette, located at the top of High Street in the town was targeted. The individual forced entry to the dryer cash drawer using a crowbar. As a result of the force used, the whole mechanism has been broken.
The laundrette remains open but currently has no dryers available.
Taking to their Facebook page in a bid to identify the male, Newport Laundrette has also revealed that another of their laundrettes – Barton Washteria – has been temporarily closed due to what has been described by the owners as damage that is ‘beyond repair’.
Island Echo understands that the damage to Beech Road based establishment is estimated at around £10,000.
UPDATE @ 12:00 – Police have confirmed that a 40-year-old man has been arrested and bailed following a burglary at Newport Laundrette on Sunday evening (18th May).
Investigations into the other 2 burglaries – committed yesterday evening – continue.
