Last Friday saw fair weather and calm seas for this year’s first ‘Music on the Move’, from Yarmouth to Winchester.
Passengers and school children were greeted on an early crossing on Wightlink’s Wight Sun service from Yarmouth to Lymington with a medley of popular Jazz songs sung by Ali Smith, JC and Cathy Grimshaw and Nigel Lynk.
The children particularly enjoyed the treat, singing and dancing along at the start of their exciting day out to the Roald Dahl museum in Buckinghamshire.
The band then travelled on to Brockenhurst on South Western Railway and Winchester on a CrossCountry service, where passengers joined in to the unexpected singalong.
Music on the Move has been run by the Isle of Wight and New Forest Community Partnership and enjoyed by passengers since 2014. Its especially appreciated at the start to a weekend, day out or holiday by tourists, commuters and this time, pupils from the Isle of Wight.
On returning to the Isle of Wight, the foursome boarded the 12:55 Southern Vectis ‘Breezer’ open top tour bus from Yarmouth to the Needles, where again the band surprised and delighted passengers on their way to the historic landmark.
Bobby Lock, Community Rail Manager of both partnerships said:
“We love putting on Music on the Move for everybody to listen to and enjoy whilst traveling on or off the Island, it’s something that brings a smile to peoples faces, lovely to see and a great start to the weekend”.
