UPDATED: Firefighters from Newport, Ryde and Ventnor have responded to a fire at a property in Sandown this afternoon (Wednesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised 3 appliances to Station Avenue in the town at just gone 14:00 following reports of a fire within a semi-detached residential property, possibly with someone still inside.
Island Echo understands the fire was extinguished by members of the public prior to the arrival of fire crews. Just 1 appliance from Ryde now remains on scene.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are checking over a female, although she is not thought to have suffered any lasting injuries.
Station Avenue is currently blocked on the train station side of The Broadway.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – Emergency services have now left the scene. The road has reopened.
