The absence of an essential crew member has meant that a total of 6 sailings have been cancelled on Wightlink’s FastCat service this evening (Saturday).
Wightlink has cancelled the 20:52, 22:15 and 23:10 from Ryde Pier Head and the 20:20, 21:45 and 22:45 from Portsmouth Harbour.
As a result, the final sailing leaving the Island is the 19:47 and the final sailing to the Island the 19:20.
Wightlink has apologised for the inconvenience caused.
We apologise you have to spend the night on the wrong side of the Solent. Pathetic.
And nothing changes. A poor service and empty platitudes. Thanks Wightlink.
Really, just not good enough. They don’t have the staff to cover when someone is out sick or whatever? Incompetent management, running the service as cheaply as possible at the expense of their customers needs.
They should have to pay to re-accommodate passengers on other services, pay for hotels and pay a penalty. Perhaps then they would hire enough staff and do enough maintenance to avoid cancelling services.
I hope Wightlink didn’t apologise for “any” inconvenience caused, as is often the case nowadays. Like, there’s a possibility travellers were fine with being messed around.
If the spotlight is firmly on Wightlink after Quigley’s recent visit to a relevant government minister, hard to believe when the response from Wightlink seems to have been a firm “….whatever…”.
Why are Wightlink not learning from loads of previous cancellations due to the absence of staff. It is obvious a serious problem that they need to resolve to stop future occurrences. Seems at the moment they would rather just cancel crossings than fix the problem!
