UPDATED: Police have closed the main road from Newport to Ryde this evening (Friday) as a result of a road traffic collision, reported to involve up to 3 vehicles.
Traffic is being diverted via St Edmund’s Walk and New Road to bypass the crash scene on the High Street.
It is understood the 3 vehicles have gone into the back of one another at the junction of New Road.
No one is thought to have been seriously injured but paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene.
Southern Vectis Route 4 and 9 buses are likely to be delayed.
UPDATE @ 18:50 – The damaged vehicles have been moved into New Road, allowing for the High Street to re-open.
