UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on Parkhurst Road between Newport and Cowes this evening (Tuesday), which is thought to involve up to 4 vehicles.
One appliance from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and ambulance crews are all currently at the scene of the incident near the entrance to HMP Isle of Wight.
The collision took place at around 18:30.
Traffic is backed up in the area with the road closed in both directions. Southern Vectis Route 1 buses will be delayed as a result.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – The female driver of a silver car is being attended to by fire crews and paramedics, although she is not thought to be seriously injured.
Motorists should continue to avoid the area, diverting via Whitehouse Lane, Porchfield or the prison estate.
Southern Vectis say all Route 1 buses to Cowes will divert via the prison estate and back onto the normal route. Inbound buses to Newport are not affected.
UPDATE @ 19:30 – The driver’s door on a silver VW Golf has been removed by firefighters to assist in extricating a female from the vehicle.
No one has been seriously injured in crash and Police expect to reopen the road fully within the next 60 minutes. One female has been conveyed the very short distance to hospital with suspected neck and back injuries.
Recovery of the vehicles involved has been arranged.
The carriageway heading into Newport from Cowes is now open, however traffic remains heavy in and around the area.
UPDATE @ 20:35 – The incident has now been cleared. Parkhurst Road has reopened in both directions.
