A lone yachtsman who reported he had lost his tiller this afternoon (Friday) eventually received assistance from Cowes RNLI.
The gentleman aboard the 22ft Swallow told Solent Coastguard that he had lost steerage in the Solent just north west of Beaulieu River.
Upon arriving alongside the casualty, Cowes Lifeboat found the yacht had anchored to await assistance. The yacht was then towed to safety in the river.
Having launched at 14:38, the lifeboat returned to the station nearly two hours later.
