A fishing boat taking on water off the coast of the Isle of Wight has prompted the launch of Cowes RNLI’s inshore lifeboat this morning (Tuesday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the Atlantic 85 lifeboat from Cowes at 09:57 following reports of a vessel in difficulty in the Solent.
Lifeboat volunteers have reached the casualty vessel – located to the north of Osborne Bay – and are now towing the 26ft vessel to Hamble Point Marina near Warsash off Southampton Water.
UPDATE @ 11:46 – The casualty vessel is now safely alongside at Hamble Point Marina.
Cowes Lifeboat is standing down and returning to the boathouse at Cowes.
It has been confirmed that the leak, which was clamped off by the 2 persons on board, was caused by a broken prop shaft. The vessel had lost all power.
