The Isle of Wight Council’s telephone lines are completely down this morning (Wednesday), leaving Islanders unable to reach the local authority.
Several Island Echo readers have been in touch to express their frustration at not being able to get through to the Council.
It has now been confirmed that there is a technical issue with the telephone lines meaning the authority cannot accept incoming calls. Furthermore, it is said that staff are unable to make outbound telephone calls too.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“Our team are working with our provider to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused”.
UPDATE @ 11:05 – A spokesperson for the Council has now told Island Echo:
“Earlier this morning a technical issue with our phone system occurred. We are not currently able to receive incoming or make outbound calls. Our supplier is working with the manufacturer as we speak. We will provide an update as soon as there is one on our social media page.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and wish to reassure residents that we are working hard to rectify the issue as swiftly as possible
“Residents can still email us at: [email protected] or visit www.iow.gov.uk.”

Should of paid the bill.Staff have council mobiles to call out. This is problem with tech – great when works but major concerns when doesn’t.
Shouldn’t make any difference. No one will notice as you can’t get through to anyone anyway.
The IWC staff never take calls from thier paying public anyway, just some useless call centre. So what difference will the lines being down make to anyone?
Are there any staff actually working at County Hall?
