The Isle of Wight Council is urging people using pay and display machines to be careful after a fake QR code was stuck to a machine in Yaverland. Customers scanning the code at the Yaverland Car Park machine reported the issue earlier today (Thursday). The shoddily-placed QR code – which was stuck below the buttons and display panel – takes customers to what is a fake web version of the normal PayByPhone site. It is thought that numerous people have fallen foul of the issue on another hot day that has seen Islanders and tourists alike head to the beach. An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson has said:
“We do not use QR codes and Motorists should pay directly via the PayByPhone app.”

do not remove cash payments on parking machines
Perhaps they need to state on the machine DO NOT USE ANY QR CODE STUCK ON THIS MACHINE
Surprised anyone was taken in by that amateurish sticker
I won’t and will never pay by anything but cash.
There are too many scams when it comes to QR Codes etc
Cash is much safer, you cannot be scammed, you may
lose a pound or 2 in the meter, but not anymore.
Cash is King
So scammers trying to muscle in on the council’s extortionate parking scam
Next it will be the toilets.
