The Isle of Wight Council says it is cooperating fully with the Police in light of 2 of its fleet vehicles being involved in separate road traffic collisions in the past few days.
On Saturday, an electric VW Up was badly damaged in a head-on crash at Whippingham.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services rushed to Whippingham Road – near Racecourse Roundabout – at just before 10:45 when a VW Up and a black Ford Kuga collided.
The road was closed for more than 3 hours and 2 persons were conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Just 3 days later, another Council-owned vehicle has been damaged in a road traffic collision – this time at the other end of Fairlee Road in Newport.
It was just before 07:30 this morning (Tuesday) that a black Kia Soul was involved in a crash, oddly enough, also involving a Ford Kuga.
The incident has caused significant tailbacks heading into Newport from all directions.
In response to the situation, a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“The Isle of Wight Council is aware on Saturday and this morning its fleet vehicles were involved in road traffic collisions.
“The council is cooperating fully with emergency services and has no further comment to make it this time.”

EV going wrong again
Errr the council hasn’t commented… and why would they ? Pointless post by IE !
Do what many other UK Councils are doing
20mph is plenty, much safer for everyone.
Pompey have the right idea.
EIE Remind me never to drive behind you at 20 MPH everywhere
So you are a speeding numpty!
Bless
Maybe Mr. Nough you should try driving in and around London in the Khan Zones then spout the same boring drivel.
Why not go for 5mph…or better still why not ban driving altogether? That would cut accidents wouldn’t it?
Brains of a chicken.
I have done so, it is safe as houses.
Khan has done a great job unlike the island
authorities who have no idea about road safety.
Probably in your pedal car. When you get over taken by bikes on the A3 in Kingston you know the game is up.
Safe as houses? You must live in a doll’s house if you honestly believe London is safe? Have you ever been there? I lived there for 50 years.
You can’t drive with your windows open as a woof will even reach in to take your sunglasses off. They open the back doors of your car while you are pondering along at 19mph and then they are away. I had my vehicle done over 4 times in 11 months,3 of them outside my front door..a guy sits on the wall at the end of The Westway spotting likely candidates. As the vehicles slow, they run out grab what they can and away.
No idea have you? You wouldn’t last 2 minutes let alone 5.
Rubbish. CCTV every where and speed cameras
everywhere.
Roads are much safer, and crime percentage
for a small island with a small population is high.
There are sooties and chimps everywhere in the city looking for a opportunity to rob!
It’s okay for Khan he travels on a rug
Like your comment to dick head
Please do the Island a favour and get a new hobby. The same drivel you comment on every IE story is so tedious. Many thanks in advance.
I won’t stop until numpties slow down!
Bless you
Why are we paying for soooooo many fleet vehicles anyway.
They all want freebies.
Stupid post!
Driver’s awareness course required at the council !
There are 8 comments. Why can I only see one?
I’m not suggesting anything but the common denominator is Isle of Wight council.
I wish ‘enough is enough’ would disappear off this platform. I’m guessing he’s under the care of the mental health services. If not, he should be. Under educated keyboard warrior that just likes to wind everyone up…
Enough about yourself.
People need to drive slower and respect traffic rules.
Very rare on this island.
