A head-on crash involving 2 cars has closed the main road in and out of East Cowes this morning (Saturday).
Emergency services are on scene just off the Racecourse roundabout, where a black Ford Kuga and a white electric VW Up – owned by the Isle of Wight Council – have collided.
Significant damage has been caused to both vehicles, with the occupants assisted from the vehicles and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment.
It was just before 10:45 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received reports of a road traffic collision, with resources also mobilised by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
There is significant travel disruption on the back roads from Wootton to East Cowes as motorists divert around the closure on Whippingham Road.
Traffic exiting East Cowes is said to be backed up to Osborne House, with lengthy queues forming for the floating bridge too.
Southern Vectis is operating a shuttle bus from Waitrose to Osborne Roundabout until further notice.
Police have lake closures in place on Racecourse roundabout as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
It is unclear at this time when the road is likely to reopen.
UPDATE @ 13:24 – 2 people have sustained injury’s in today’s crash, described as neck and back pain.
However, the injuries sustained at not life threatening or life changing.
Recovery of both vehicles is now underway, with the road expected to reopen shortly.
Anyone with any information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 0542 of today’s date.
UPDATE @ 14:12 – The road has now reopened in both directions.

I would imagine the IW Council vehicle as dash cam
footage to identify how the accident happened.

stickers on the back of their vehicles about speed etc

at the back of Sandown Pier, cheap to use.
Much cheaper in the long run and they are designed to bump
unlike vehicles.

Lately i have noticed so many cars being driven on the central white lines. I’ve had several near misses. I don’t drive right next to the kerb because of so many sunken drains. It ruins the wheels. So many pot holes to avoid as well.
Me too, but too be honest the majority of numpties are
