Fire crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde and Newport were mobilised to reports of a property fire with persons still inside in Sandown earlier this evening (Monday), but cooking fumes have been blamed for the alert.
3 fire appliances, the Incident Command Unit and a duty officer were mobilised to Hill Street, alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police, at around 17:15.
Upon the arrival of the first fire crews it was determined that all persons were in fact accounted for and there was no sign of fire.
Investigations concluded that the fire alarm was sounding due to cooking fumes within the building, according to the Friends of Sandown Fire Station.
The incident was quickly scaled down and brought to a close within just 10 minutes.
