HM Coastguard, Yarmouth Lifeboat and Police have responded to a concern for welfare call at Tennyson Down near Freshwater.
A member of the public reported seeing a person near the clifftop at just before 10:20 this morning (Wednesday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Yarmouth RNLI are currently on scene. Police have also responded to the incident.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard has said:
“At 10.18am today, HM Coastguard received a report of an incident at Tennyson Down. We sent Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and also tasked Needles Coastguard Rescue Team. We also sent Yarmouth ALB RNLI. HM Coastguard have also been assisting Hampshire Police”.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary adds:
“We were called around 10.30am today (June 24) to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man at Tennyson Down. Officers attended but no man was located”.
Search and rescue resources remain in the area this lunchtime.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that a gentleman was located on the cliff edge, but was relocated to an area of safety.
