East Cowes’ Community Spirited Café is celebrating following the news that they have been registered as a charity. It’s taken the best part of a year to get the community group – based on Vectis Road – to be accepted as a registered charity. The team of volunteers and local members of the community celebrated last week (Thursday 29th February). Jane Allchorn from Community Spirited said:
“The community group needed to have this status because, if the government’s Spring budget does not announce more funding for the household support fund then we would struggle to keep the first-ever food pantry on the island open. “Charity status gives us so much more scope to gain more funding.”
Weekly groups on:
- Tuesday 13:30 – 15:30 – Mental Wellness
- Wednesday Crafty Knit & Natter 10:30 – 12:30
- Thursday games group 10:30 – 12:30
The food pantry is at the same day and times as the groups. 4 weekly groups are:
- Wednesday Wingo Bingo – during the evening.
- Monday bereavement support group 15:00 – 17:00.
The pantry’s next fundraiser is to be held on Saturday 30th March 11:00 – 14:00 with an Easter Egg hunt taking place. with a free egg for those who participate.
