UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue Teams are in attendance at The Causeway on the River Yar near Freshwater this afternoon (Friday), where a person is thought to be trapped in mud.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 16:00, prompting the mobilisation of HM Coastguard officers from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.
Specialist mud rescue equipment carried by Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team has been requested at the scene.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – Coastguard Officers are working to rescue a total of 5 people from a small RIB that has run aground on the River Yar.
UPDATE @ 18:00 – The casualties have been successfully transferred to dry land by stretcher, with 2 Coastguard officers using full mud rescue equipment to reach the small inflatable boat.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the incident.
