A search and rescue operation has been launched in Shanklin tonight (Sunday) following the discovery of clothing on the beach.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team are in attendance on the Shanklin to Sandown revetment with officers conducting a shoreline search between the 2 towns.
Island Echo is told that concerns have been raised that someone may be in the water after items of clothing were found as darkness fell.
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has launched to conduct a search of The Bay as Coastguard Rescue Officers (CROs) continue their land-based search.
UPDATE @ 18:15 – A paraflare has been fired into the sky by Sandown Lifeboat in the past few minutes to light up the immediate area in a bid to improve visibility.
The volunteer lifeboat crew are continuing to search up and down the coast.
UPDATE @ 18:35 – The search has now been called off with a positive outcome, Island Echo is told.
Coastguard teams are now regrouping before standing down.
