Isle of Wight Search & Rescue (WightSAR) has received a total of £1,250 from those behind the Bannock Road Charity Christmas Lights display. The Thornton family have been dressing up their bungalow in Whitwell with an ever-increasing amount of Christmas lights, bringing sparkle to the village. In the 6 years they have actively been raising money for charity, a total of £5,686.31 has been generated with every penny of that total going to each year’s chosen charity. This year,27-year-old Shane chose WightSAR as the display’s 2023 charity and raised an almost record-breaking amount of £1,250. The Whitwell-based display also came 3rd in Island Echo’s Light up the Wight Christmas Lights competition for the 2nd year running too. Some of the WightSAR team visited the display in December to thank Shane and to experience the lights themselves. Dean Terrett, Chairman & Founder of WightSAR, said:
“We are so grateful to Shane for choosing WightSAR to raise money for his amazing efforts, dedication and enthusiasm put into building such an amazing Christmas lights display. It was incredible to get the call when Shane announced the total amount raised, much higher than anything we expected! “We are in the process of replacing some of our medical equipment and the money will go towards part funding of a new Mule Wheel Stretcher. Keep up the great work Shane!”.
