Shanklin Chine is closed today (Thursday) due to significant flooding resulting from yesterday’s torrential downpours.
Joanne Porter, Operations Manager of Shanklin Chine, has said:
“My team are working around the clock to fix and clear the Chine. Safety is paramount and must come first for both our employees and visitors.”

The Fisherman’s Cottage has reopened, with Shanklin Chine reopening tomorrow morning (Friday) – but the lower section only. Access to Shanklin Chine will be from the Esplanade entrance.
The Old Village entrance will be closed until the end of the season.
Joanne continued:
“We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Chine again on Friday and have a full programme of Halloween fun planned.”

Who cares, the moment they stopped taking cash I stopped visiting this

I agree, I also do not use any companies that refuse to take cash unless I cannot avoid it, on principle. These places should, in my opinion, be prosecuted for refusing cash (i.e. legal tender) and closed down. Asda petrol station springs immediately to mind.

A business can choose to accept shirt buttons for payment if they wish.
Perhaps read up on the law before commenting.
Are you aware that companies are able to use any method of payment they wish? It’s not illegal to take only cash or card. If a company wants to take pokemon cards as payment they can.

We have visited Isle of wight for 46 years sometimes reo and three times a year. The chine is one of our favourite places and also our grand children’s. Cash was stopped I believe because of COVID and handling money but it’s getting the preference in a lot of places it’s a shame if people don’t have cards the need to sort out another option.
They have let down loyal customers by refusing cash with the
Queens face on!
What happened to I promise to pay the bearer?
They must be wealthy to turn down custom!
It is The Bank of England that “Promises to Pay the Bearer,” NOT the visitor attraction. That is a different business, and it may choose to accept the “Promisory Note” in lieu of a preferred payment type (card) or it may not. Their choice, just as it is your choice to withhold your custom if that’s what you want to do.
Not because of COVID, but the government response to it, many other laws were imposed during that period none repealed
