With the Isle of Wight carnival season about to get underway, we have compiled a comprehensive list of all 13 carnival processions taking place in 2022.
Things kick off this Saturday (23rd July) with Newport’s Main Carnival, following the tradition of being the first carnival of the season. The county town celebrates 100 years of the carnival this year so it is expected to be a bumper procession, setting off at 19:00.
Missing from the line-up completely this year is Cowes Carnival, with no Main or Illuminated procession being held. They will also not have a Queen’s float attending other events.
Also missing is Ryde’s Children’s carnival, which has been replaced with a day of events in the town centre. However, the usual Main and Illuminated carnivals will take place as normal at the start of September, following the usual route around the town.
In Shanklin, there will be no judging taking place for either the Main or Illuminated carnivals, which both set off at 19:00.

One face that will be absent from this year’s Sandown Carnivals will be town crier John Davies, who sadly passed away last month.
All carnivals are free to attend – but remember to get there early to secure yourself a good vantage point.
