Carisbrooke College has been awarded the prestigious Gold School Games Mark for the 2024/25 academic year, recognising its commitment to sporting excellence and competitive opportunities for young people.
The Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, rewards schools that actively promote and deliver sporting competition within school and into the community. Launched in 2012, the scheme encourages participation, leadership and sustained involvement in physical activity.
Sporting success at Carisbrooke this year has been extensive. The college’s U16 boys football team reached the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup and won the U16 Island Football League. A total of 5 students competed in the National Indoor Rowing Championships, and three represented the Isle of Wight at the Hampshire Athletics Championships.
Additional achievements include a second-place finish for the U15 girls indoor cricket team and one student who is on an Olympic training pathway for archery, also named the Isle of Wight’s Sports Person of the Year.
More than 200 students have taken part in local inter-school competitions, with many others volunteering as leaders and officials to help deliver events.
To secure the Gold Mark, schools must meet criteria across participation, competition, workforce and club engagement. Carisbrooke College has expressed pride in the collective effort made by students and staff to reach this level of recognition.
