Emergency services have been called to a road traffic collision in Arreton this afternoon (Tuesday) near to the entrance of Arreton Barns.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are all in attendance where is thought the occupants are trapped after careering into a bus stop.
Arreton Street – the main road through Arreton – has now been closed to traffic.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised 2 fire appliances from Newport.
An ambulance from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene alongside colleagues from the police.
It is understood that a silver 4×4 has left the car park of Arreton Barns Craft Village, ploughed through boundary fencing, down the embankment before crashing into a bus stop.
UPDATE @ 15:40 – Island Echo understands the crashed vehicle – a Jeep Grand Cherokee – accelerated forwards and crashed through a small fence before hitting a large rock and going through a second fence, careering down an embankment and into the rear of the bus stop shelter.
The occupants of the vehicle – a man and a woman – are being checked over by paramedics, but are not thought to have sustained any serious injuries.
It was initially feared that the occupants of the car were trapped inside. However, upon arrival of emergency services, it was discovered not to be the case. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down from the incident but Police and paramedics remain on scene.
Police are investigating reports that the vehicle was seen driving poorly in East Cowes less than an hour before the crash.
UPDATE @ 16:50 – The road has re-opened in both directions and recovery of the vehicle is underway.

Rather chaotic there.
Definitely was, went passed it.
Wow! Sounds crazy hope all are ok
Wrong gear selection i would say.
Wrong gear or wrong beer?
And definitely the wrong pedal
If you hold a driving licence, why would you select the wrong gear? And at the same time crash into two fences without applying the brakes? Your clearly not a driver or just plain stupid….
you’re*
Your right clare i could be plain stupid, but you could be but ugly as you don’t know me and I don’t know you we’re probably both wrong.
I think I will treat you with the contempt you deserve…..
Get in there brother, such an opinionated old bag
If you had a brain you would be dangerous!!!!
That went well then, think people agree with me
Think I must not be a driver either pal, Or stupid, or perhaps it’s just something to do with the fact that both 1st & Reverse are so close to eachother on my particular motor that on the odd occasion my gear selector gives me 1st as opposed to reverse & vice versa, cant say it’s ever caused me to jump a curb and write of the motor 2 fences and a bus stop, at a guess I’d say Beverage intake but i could of course be wrong what with being a fellow stupid non-driver .
probably mistook the accelerator for the brake !
Not as stupid as that comment
Whoops
I bet it’s an Auto box put in wrong gear gone forward instead of reverse
Agree David. These jeeps are automatics, mostly. Selected D instead of R. Glad nobody was waiting at the bus stop.
Driving poorly in East cowes? if the reports are true could it be drink Driving?, I’m glad no one was waiting inside the bus shelter…
someone said he drove into a car onthe ferry too, saying his throttle had stuck
Why, does everyone drink drive in monkey town? You really need to get a job or something
I bet this was caused by some silly twonk that’s too old to be on the road, presses the accelerator instead of the break/clutch.
Not all elderly drivers are bad drivers, some are yes, however, the inexperienced young drivers and aggressive van drivers are far more common.
Elderly drivers are so dangerous on the roads! 35% of all accidents are caused by the elderly!
So that means 65% are caused by younger drivers. Right.
That’s exactly what it was!
Brake.
The old and the young are a growing menace on the roads now.
Cars should be taken away and sold from anyone having such clearly bad driving accidents.
Had he been in the Dairymans Daufhter
I hope the Dairyman isn’t too cross if he has!!
Daughter.
If so, let’s hope he used ‘protection’ as a lot have been in the Dairyman’s Daughter.
Best we ask ‘her’, although she may not be one to kiss and tell.
That thought had occurred to me too.
It looked to me that they were attempting to park up and only just arrived. Unfortunately they parked up rather fast, hit the wooden parking bays in front and applied all gas on the peddle nearly hitting my children and went straight down the embankment
I know I shouldn’t get involved on here but my emotions are getting the better of me.
I was walking in front of her car just as she put her foot to the floor and drove as fast as she could over the embankment.
If it hadn’t been for the wooden parking posts holding her slightly back for a split second she would of hit my 3 young children.
It’s simple, she didn’t know what she was doing and needs her license taken away!
It must have been a very traumatic experience for you and your family, I would imagine its an experience you will never forget. I’m so glad you are all ok…
unfortunately far to many people on this media will take this with a pinch of salt, they will always make excuses for idiot.
I wish you and your family all the best for the future…
Thank you Claire. My youngest daughter of 5 years now actually has a stiff neck where I shoved her out the way. I’m extremely anxious now around cars but hoping it will pass with time x
Did you report that to the police ? It’s essential evidence…
Hi Martin, yes I was with the police at the time
You do realise you are now a dead man walking?
Well, it was certainly driving poorly at that point! I work at the ‘Barns and we heard the sirens up at Wight Classics. Glad no one was hurt – if it had reversed at speed across the carpark instead things could have been much worse.
They nearly hit my kids, we were literally in front of the car as it happened. I was first to call 999 as my first thought was the person driving was having a heart attack.
When I later found out they were fine and my babies could have been killed over negligence I was and am fuming.
Oh Ron, you can’t be thinking and posting thoughts like this! What you have said is classed as sexist. Some women drivers have taken the advanced driving test (on the mainland) passed with flying colours and are excellent drivers!!!! Understand what I’m saying?
And the less ‘advanced’ foreigners too, one suggests. Even Saudi don’t allow ladies to drive.
Ron you are sexist, its been proven that women are the better drivers.
Spectacular, how the hell did the driver manage that???
Sexist pig you’re obviously a sad singleton. You wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for a woman!
Whats your pronoun? How do you identify? I, myself, i am a fire hydrant.
that bus shelter stood up to the knock quite well builder should be quite pleased with himself
Another 4 wheel drive idiot off the roa
Now if only we could remove the idiots from this comment page.
You’d be the first idiot I’d remove.
Yes it is a little technical to prevent yourself reading your own comments even if you did filter yourself.
Actually, 4 wheel drive cars were originally designed to be used off the road.
Maybe that’s where they should be?
Just a thought, was she wearing flipflops? Got it stuck under pedal. I’ve read of the happening before. Of course she could have just been an idiot who couldnt drive. From reports of then coming over, hitting a car on boat driving like a nutter in east cowes.
Notice how secure the bus shelter is. Built by men and saving the life of another dodgy woman driver.
Shut up you’re boring all the women out there who have more brain cells in their little finger than you have in total
This was not what was reported the man forgot to apply his handbrake and the car rolled through a fence before hitting bus stop! Remember always apply handbrake! Island echo got there reporting wrong again as I witnessed this happening!
I doubt that the 4×4 would have rolled uphill even with the handbrake off, if you look at the area it slopes up to the two fences not down
Yep that’s completely wrong!!
Yet the police Come from the mainland and give tickets to motorcycle riders for wrong size number plate and wrong viser. But you can drive a car which weights nearly 2 ton how you want on this island. Just saying
I suspect the key to this story is in the comment “the vehicle was seen driving poorly in east Cowes less than an hour before the crash”
