UPDATED: Police, Fire and Ambulance crews are responding to a road traffic collision on Shorwell Shute this afternoon (Wednesday) in which a car has overturned.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident between Shorwell and Carisbrooke at just before 13:30.
It is feared at least 1 person is trapped.
UPDATE @ 14:25 – 2 elderly female occupants of the overturned car – a Citroen C3 – have been extricated by fire crews and are being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
2 fire appliances and a rescue tender from Newport; 2 ambulances; a rapid response paramedic and an ambulance officer are all in attendance at the scene alongside Police.
It is thought the car veered onto the wrong side of the carriageway before driving up a bank, overturning and coming to rest upside down facing the opposite direction.
The 2 locals are understood to have escaped any serious injury.
The road has been closed in both directions and Route 12 Southern Vectis buses are diverting via Brook,
UPDATE @ 14:45 – Emergency services are now standing down from the incident.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen within the hour.
UPDATE @ 16:10 – Shorwell Shute has now reopened in both directions.
