UPDATED: Emergency services including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and ambulance crews are responding to a road traffic collision in Freshwater this morning (Friday), in which a car has come to rest on its side.
The incident, which occurred at around 10:30, has taken place on School Green Road near to the former Co-Operative store.
Firefighters from Freshwater and Newport are in attendance at the scene, where an elderly female is thought to be trapped inside the vehicle – a silver A-class Mercedes-Benz.
The road is currently blocked in both directions.
UPDATE @ 11:10 – Fire crews have now stabilised the vehicle and have removed the roof in order to safely extricate the elderly woman.
It is currently unclear how the incident has occurred.
A full road closure has now been put in place and is likely to remain so for at least a further 90 minutes.
UPDATE @ 11:42 – The driver has been freed by firefighters and has been conveyed by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital. No one else has been injured in the incident.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged.
UPDATE – The road has now reopened in both directions.
