The Isle of Wight Council has said it is investigating an incident which occurred earlier today (Wednesday) when 3 life rafts blew out of their cradle in strong winds and into a car boarding the vessel.
A spokesperson confirmed 1 vehicle had been damaged but the service across the River Medina continues to operate and no further details could be given at this stage.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Isle of Wight is currently subject to a yellow weather warning issued by the IW Met Service for strong winds. It has been in place since 11:00 this morning and continues until 23:00 this evening (Wednesday).
As also reported by Island Echo, some cross-Solent travel providers have cancelled sailings and trees have fallen across the Island but are now cleared.

Good luck with getting the council to cough up for the damage…
Won’t have a problem if they quote the Athens convention, it holds the operator 100% liable.
they will find an excuse not to pay up just like Island Roads
What makes me laugh is that the Floating Bridge hardly ever runs,
but on the Windiest day of the year it runs.
You couldn’t make it up.
How often do yu use the Floating Bridge ?… not very often by making that remark, your’e the joke.
I use it regularly and it’s not very often out of action these days unless something serious happens.
Yet another mistake then? Who is actually responsible?
Let’s hope the car owner doesn’t go with the first quotation for repair like the council do with everything or it’s going to cost us £500,000 to fix the car as it will be us paying for the repair
Newish, just past safety check etc how do 3 life rafts bloe out cradle?. Common sense suggested they should have quick release tie down, even if only in windy conditions . Council launch investigation – not secure. Hit a car ! what if child or elderly person?
Hang on hasn’t it just had its safety inspection?? How did they miss that then?
They blew off landed on the front wing of a black audi 4×4 …denting the wing and breaking the headlight …no the life rafts were not tied down properly …and its the operators faults …we watched it all as we stood in the pouring rain waiting for 30 mins
