carintoscaffoldlorrybembridge8UPDATED: Forelands Road in Bembridge has been closed by Police following a road traffic collision in which a car has collided into the rear of a parked scaffold lorry.

An elderly male driver behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia is receiving treatment from a rapid response paramedic following the incident, which took place at just before 09:20.

It is thought the blinding low sun may have played a part in the incident.

Forelands Road has been closed between Swains Road and Lane End and as a result Southern Vectis Route 8 buses are not serving Crossways.

UPDATE @ 10:15 – An ambulance crew has now arrived on scene to convey the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. He is thought to have sustained minor injuries.

Forelands Road remains closed and traffic is being diverted locally, although Steyne Road remains closed for roadworks.

UPDATE @ 11:00 – The lorry has now been recovered by Bartletts Service Station, whilst the car has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors.

Forelands Road has reopened in both directions.
