46-year-old Ben Scott has been charged with drink driving after he drove his car into a block of flats in Ventnor last night (Sunday).
Police were called to Albert Street in the town centre at around 19:00 to reports that a Honda Jazz had left the road.
Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle down an embankment, kissing the brickwork of Victoria House.
They quickly identified and arrested the driver, who provided a positive roadside breath test.
Although a tree was damaged in the incident, the building and car appeared undamaged. The vehicle was left in-situ overnight.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that 46-year-old Ben Scott, of Albert Street in Ventnor, has now been charged with drink driving.
He has been released from custody on bail, to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 13th May.
Until drink, drug or banned and speeding
Numpty’s are banged up, our roads will
NEVER be safe!
Maybe the Council should get Island Roads to
install bollards islandwide
“It will stop Numpty’s driving into people’s homes and
STOP stupid B’stards parking on Pavements”
IT’S A WIN WIN FOR EVERYONE.
Let me run the Island. I would make Khan look like
a marshmallow.
WE NEED RULES not FEEBLE EXCUSES
Totally agree with you, the stupid idiot could have killed someone, every day we are reading about this shit. Bet the car wasn’t insured/ taxed/ mot either???
OK, “stupid idiot could have killed someone”,.. Yes,.
but “Bet the car wasn’t insured/ taxed/ mot either???”
according to gov.uk.. the car is taxed until July & MOT’d until end October, and IS insured…. so ‘Susieneverwong’ is wong in this case….
You would be surprised how many Numpty’s are
driving around the island with NO Mot
Check for yourself online when you see a
Numpty Motorist, usually they are law breakers.
I cannot believe there is hardly any law on the
Island.
IW Council are useless when it comes to making
our Roads safe.
I have been saying for ages how UNSAFE island
roads are.
Regent Street Shanklin they allow vehicles to double
park.
The cop shop is up the road and they do nothing
about it, the Councils civil enforcement officers
spend more time booking people who go over their
time by a few minutes than tackle real law breakers.
They take the easy option.
How much would you like to bet?
Ever thought about going to live with the Eskimos? No traffic there, and it would give the rest of us a break….
I am just trying to make a lawless island
law abiding.
So many Numpty’s don’t understand law and order
hence what is taking place day in day out.
“Maybe the Council should get Island Roads to install bollards islandwide”
Oh, what a surprise….
Yet another implausible ‘idea’ from you which seems to have absolutely no consideration of the cost involved…
“Roads on the Isle of of Wight as envisioned by IE commentor ‘Enough is Enough’:….
>Blanket 20 mph speed limit, everywhere…
>Speed cameras every 100m on every road
>Speed bumps on every road, especially on corners on the Military Road
>Bollards on every pavement, to prevent any vehicle actually getting off the road.”
“IT’S A WIN WIN FOR EVERYONE” ,.. (except those paying for it,.. oh and everone who would loose out somehow if the little money the IW council has were spent on that rather than essential services… you are obviously absolutely clueless as to how much your ridiculous ‘suggestions’ would cost)…
Islandwide parking permit charges would raise
enough revenue to carry out the works required.
On the mainland so many Councils charge motorists
permit parking charges.
It’s the norm.
You don’t really have a clue about money & public finance do you ??
——————————
Estimation of the costs of Enough is Enough’s speed reduction and other schemes, and a ‘Rough order of Magnitude’ analysis of how they propose to fund them.
Estimated number of cars (registered) on IoW = 100,000 (was 90,000 in 2018(1))
% of houses with off-street parking = 68%(2)
Therefore, number of cars parked on public road = 30,000
Average Cost of parking permit = £87.5(3)
Therefore, total revenue from island-wide parking permits = £3m
Miles of Road on IoW ≈ 500(4) (=800km)
For:
1 speed camera every 2km
1 speed hump every 500m
1 bollard (on average) every 100m
There would need to be:
~400 speed cameras
~1600 speed humps
~ 8000 bollards
The cost of a Speed Camera is ~ £40k(5)
The cost of a speed hump is ~ £2K(6) + additional cost for signage
The cost of a bollard is ~ £500(7)
Therefore, total cost of proposed speed reduction measures ~ £22m
(Which is over 7 times the proposed revenue source)
Plus…
“Camp Hill prison should be re-opened for drink, drug
drivers and speeding Numpty’s and Numpty’s who drive
whilst using their phones.
It will be full by the end of the year.”
Camphill Prison used to house ~ 600 inmates(8)
Cost revamping (the long abandoned) Camp Hill Prison est. £153m(9)
Cost PA per prison place = £51k(10)
Therefore, total cost of revamp and annual running costs = £165.6m
So, total cost of Enough is Enough’s speed reduction and other schemes, for 1 year is ~ £187 million
And the calculated revenue income from proposed parking permits is ~ £3 million

Then increase income tax etc etc
I wonder how many homes on the island
claim they live alone to pay single person
council tax.
The island could generate more money.
Islandwide permit parking, congestion charge
etc etc
Also bring in a ULEZ style system
We can STOP the uneducated Numpty’s
who are taking the piss on island roads.
“increase income tax etc”, “The island could generate more money”, “Islandwide permit parking, congestion charge etc”, “Also bring in a ULEZ style system”…….
No it’s worse than I thought,.. you are defiately deranged..
Shall I call the ‘men in white coats’ to come & take you away,..
you remind me of Chief Inspector Dreyfus in Pink Panther,..
Just replace Clouseau with ‘Numpties’…

Motorists need to pay more.
We could fine him £10 every time he (mis)uses the word ‘Numpty’s’. Would pay for everything in no time
Better still charge all Numpty motorists extra
£10.00 the island would raise thousands of
pounds
