Firefighters worked to extinguish a car fire near to a school in Sandown last night (Sunday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the blaze on Golf Links Road at 20:44, with 1 retained appliance from Sandown mobilised to the scene .
2 hose reel jets and 2 breathing apparatus sets were utilised to dowse the flames and bring the situation under control.
The single crew spent over an hour dealing with the incident, which occurred near to The Bay CE Secondary School.
Bizarrely, last night’s incident was the third vehicle fire in as many days following a car fire at Brading on Friday and a motorcycle fire in Newport during the early hours of Sunday.

Well the lowest insurance is theft! the second lowest is Fire and theft so make your own minds up! I just hope no one has been hurt dealing with what can only be described as mindless vandalism and fraud! but as I said on earlie posts things will get worse due to desperation so please be aware and stay safe
Awful thing to happen to someone, a car is essential for many.
Trouble with insurance claims it’s not a case of a payout in next day or 2 it could take months
So does fixing a car up and getting it through an MOT sometimes, that certainly costs money. These are either stolen cars being burnt out or there insurance claims. The only other thing it could be is the suspicious apperance of the ‘Monolith’ !!!!!
Some might suggest fraud but I’d suggest someone with pyromania has been released from their section , in error perhaps. Seems to be too many car blazes occuring.
