The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been scrambled to Ryde this afternoon (Saturday) following a collision between a cyclist and a car on a busy roundabout.
Police, fire and paramedics were first called to Smallbrook Roundabout at around 15:00 following reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a Volvo.
At the scene, the estate car – travelling towards Ryde from Ashey – has hit a cyclist on a red road bike.
The cyclist is currently being tended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including a Critical Care Paramedic and Operational Commander.
Such is the severity of the incident, HIOWAA was scrambled from its Thruxton base at around 15:30, landing on the nearby cricket pitch at Smallbrook at just before 16:00.
The roundabout remains partially blocked for the time being whilst the incident is dealt with.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – The cyclist has been taken to hospital. Police have described their injuries as non-life threatening.

Hope the car is okay
This was nearly me yesterday at the same roundabout. Woman on a cycle came from Ashey rd on my left and turned up Carter’s rd without even stopping to look if anything was coming from the right. I had to brake sharp to avoid her. She then gave me a mouthful when I pipped at her.
It’s about time IW Council made roads safe for cyclists,
time to install cycle lanes islandwide.
Dare I say it, the future is cycles, not vehicles.
Prick..
Smallbrook Roundabout needs fixing
Its a joke
