Volunteer kayakers and support boats are being sought for this year’s charity swim across the Solent in aid of Wessex Cancer Support. The charity runs an annual ‘Swim for Hope’ event to raise funds to support Islanders affected by cancer. Last year, 40 swimmers bravely swam 1.3 miles from Hurst Castle to Colwell Bay and raised £59,788. With the 2024 swim already a sell-out, Wessex Cancer Support is now on the hunt for safety kayakers and support boats for the event. Laura Haytack, Regional Fundraising Manager, says;
“These vital volunteers ensure the safety of all swimmers as they cross the Solent. Without them the event simply wouldn’t go ahead, and we wouldn’t be able to raise this incredible amount of money.”
Wessex Cancer Support’s Swim for Hope 2024 will take place on Sunday 30th June, as long as the charity can find vital support vessels. Details of how you can volunteer for this event can be found at https://www.wessexcancer.org.uk/event/swim-2024/.
