CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO STOP DIAMOND RACES 2021 – BUT IT’S FULL OF MISINFORMATION
Share on FacebookShare on X

A campaign has been established to ‘stop’ next year’s Diamond Races motorcycle event taking place on the Isle of Wight, but it’s full of scaremongering misinformation.

‘No Diamond Races’ is being led by unknown individuals who oppose this event. They claim the racing festival will not only turn the route along the Military Road and through the villages of Chale, Kingston, Shorwell, Limerstone and Brighstone into an official race track for the event itself, but an unofficial one for the rest of the year.

A newsletter has been sent out this week in which it is claimed that the organisers of the inaugural event, which is due to take place in October 2021, have ‘no previous experience of running a race of this nature’ – despite the management team being involved in the Isle of Man TT and other motorsport events such as British Touring Car Championship.

Article continues below this advertisement

Residents are being scaremongered into thinking that they will be ‘locked down’ in their properties for 3-4 days and will be unable to leave the house. It’s also said that there will be no postal deliveries, no rubbish collections and limited access to things such as hospital appointments – all of which is rubbished by official information released by organisers earlier this year.

It’s also said that roads will be closed ‘at least a week in advance’ of the race and that there will be ‘immediate damage to the surrounding countryside’ with ‘considerable impact’ from littering, tarring bikers with a derogatory image.

The unknown campaigners, who appear to be campaigning from a Green stance point, state that high levels of pollution including carbon emissions, noise and particle pollution are an issue, especially in a time when a Climate Emergency has been declared with efforts to reduce ‘outdated fossil fuel emissions’.

At the start of August, an Island Echo poll of 8,100 people revealed that 92% say ‘yes’ to Diamond Races 2021.

Article continues below this advertisement

‘No Diamond Races’ posters and stickers are going to be made available shortly and a newsletter is to be issued once a month. The first newsletter has been published online as well as being put through letterboxes of addresses along the course.

It’s known that the campaign’s websites, https://nodiamondraces.org.uk/, has been created by Web Designer IOW based on Pound Lane, Shorwell.

It is nothing to do with age it is to do with people who are as thick as you.
The world motocross site was destroyed because of one man who was very good at complaining.
The diamond races would bring lots of money to the island businesses.
Bed and breakfast, camp sites, pubs, cafes, hotels etc. will all gain, plus people will visit other places on the iow while they are here and spend money just like during the scooter rallies..
I dont know of any islanders who think the diamond races is a bad idea.
Any complaints are probably down to the unwanted immigrants who come here to fester and die.
The isle of wight has been a tourist destination for a very long time. if people cant embrace that reallity they really should move away

In that case lets stop everything and anything organised taking place on the Isle of Wight. No more IW Festival which gridlocks Newport, No more Cowes Week, No more Scooter Rallies, No more Classic Car events along Ryde Esplanade, No more Royal County Show, etc etc. No more anything that people may enjoy.

I agreed. The island is a holiday destination and holiday destinations have events of all kinds. They bring in much needed revenue to the island. Without them the pubs and beach restaurants will close and the island will be left to the unemployed and coffin dodgers.

Maybe if the organisers of the race had taken the time to consult the people living in the area instead of just doing it maybe they would have had a better result but no one in the area has been contacted for a comment it’s not really fair to just tell then its going ahead with out consultation

And ifthey did what would the answer be? NO, NO, NO, and more NO’s. Because the well off retirees that live in the area want to live in peace and tranquility while they are waiting for Godo! They are ok with events that are in other parts of the island as long as it is not in their back yard! To disturb the peace even for just three day’s in a year is just to much for them to deal with. Absolute selfish B’s the lot of them!!!

Well she should be prosecuted for spreading slanderous misinformation and the site shut down.
Maybe someone should start spreading misinformation about her and see how she likes it.
If it was factual then that would be fine bit she would still be very much in the minority.

People who have bought expensive houses away from the lower elements in quiet areas, possible because they listened, learnt and acquired good positions in life should not have to have their holidays dictated to by some charity kept, housing association tenants, whose numerous bored clones wish to have a few hours of cheap thrills at others expense which will be their entire lifetimes ambition, to sponge from those who have made an effort to avoid and life apart from such beings.

Ho my God, what a perfect example of the superior complex you people hold about yourselves. Anyone who doesn’t have money and position is looked on as low life! Even hard working people who try to live on minimum wages, probably paid by people like you in business. That’s how you gain your wealth, off the backs of hard working ordinary people!! How dare you be so condescending, you share this island with the majority of ordinary folks and you have just shown them, in one statement, what you actually think of them, lumping them all into some ghetto in your mind. Absolutely disgusting!!!

I suggest it is people like you Stu who take their families to the mainland once they have saved enough cash from their pay, disability, tax credits or child allowances to see such ‘events’.

Why should people who pay extortionate council tax to live in a peaceful area have to vacate their homes for a bunch of mindless yokels, whose normal daily ‘enjoyment’ consists of watching tacky videos on phone screens of people doing stupid things for their shallow mindless ‘entertainment?’

Grow up.

Well I’m a retired ‘professional’, large index linked pension, and more than modest amount in the bank, large council tax bill due to our large house / land, rental property and live close to the circuit.
I am also an avid motorcyclist and among my closet biking friends are business owners, chief executives, doctors and teachers.
I say this is a fantastic opportunity for the Island, I may even let some bikers use my land to camp on during the event, that should wind a few people up.
Oh, and if you don’t like Island life, move, the ferries will sell you a one way ticket!

Haven’t heard so much miscommunication from the diamond race organisers who advised that peiple would be trapped in Their homes as back roads would be closed. Island roads have suggested the roads will need closing 7 days prior to this shameful event! #Saynotothediamondrace!!

At the end of the day it will bring money to the island. I don’t understand why people get so upset about events that last a day or two. It’s not the end of the world and I’m sure you have the other 360 odd days to go about your business. I don’t see the same people moaning about events like Cowes week or the isle of wight festival, which brings in thousands of people.

I am one who pay s extortionate council tax, I am up for these races and fully support,so many selfish stuck up people out there . If they had there way they would stop round island races of cycles, boats too. Let’s ban all car’s over 1yr old, anyone under 60yrs old and close down Lidl and build more Waitrose.

Matt I am not young, and I am not complaining (apart from you choice of wording) I think it is a brilliant idea, which would raise the profile of our Island. It has been done on the Isle of Man for years, and could be done here. The whole event would have a sound Health & Safety package, so what is not to like

There has been a noticeable increase in speeders, both in cars and on bikes since this event has been announced. I don’t live on the route but I still think it’s a stupid idea, money over peoples well being once again.

I happen to drive along parts of the route nearly every day, at various times. I have not noticed any increase in ANYTHING let alone a “noticeable increase in speeders”. In fact, it has been much quieter all round this year, due to Covid etc. So another lie.

Just thought I’d add that I am an older retired person who lives in the vicinity of the proposed Diamond Racesand will be able to hear it. I can remember the uproar when the Go- Karting track at Ryde wanted to firstly open then re-open but people now generally live with that okay. It is sometimes just a case of getting used to change.

Faceless nimbys, they should be named and shamed. Better still kicked off the island I’ve got no time for scare tactics like this. Remember back in the 80s Euro Disney was going to be built here on the island and the nimbys won the day. Force them to move to Arreton they don’t like anything like this and instead have a stinky useless bioplant

It’s entirely the fault of Diamond Races and the Council. A lot of would-be supporters have been alienated by their absolute failure to engage with the people and villages affected. Even their Wednesday evening meeting at The Chequers, if it goes ahead, is a rather secretive, ticket only affair.

It could be brilliant for the IW but they have to engage fully and honestly with the whole island, especially those on the route, instead of what increasingly looks like dodgy meetings before a selected audience and deals done on the QT.

The Island is already blighted with speeding motorcycle riders which the police seem to have no interest in stopping. This sort of event will only embolden them. Time for an Island referendum.

Why is it that anything that try and bring to the island like moto sport cycling and anything else like that, that alot of people that move from mainland to the island and moan about stuff like why can’t let us enjoy watching this stuff on the island it brings money to the island and its great for kids to c so that they don’t have go to mainland to watch it because ferry fares are expensive to get off the island

I am in my 60s, so not quite a coffin dodger, I am also an overland who can see that this island is dying, mainly because of the nimbys, that are slowly infesting the isle of wight. I am also very lucky that I travel around the island daily with my job. 99% of the people I talk to from all walks of life are for the Diamond Races to come here. From landowners to ordinary people on the street. From overlanders to islanders. And all ages. So for anyone to say the For’s are the minority are basically lying. If you want a quiet life then you should have moved to Worthing or Eastbourne. Remember when you are dead and buried, the younger generation will have to live with your legacy. It won’t be much of a future will it.

Absolutely brilliant idea to hold this on the Island. Maybe they could build ramps over the Medina from the lump of metal stationed there and have an island wide event. Get red bull and Evil Knievel involved and have candy floss machines and moderately loud festivities. Or you could just write moaning letters.

I would like to know why bikers are being slandered so much for such bad riding when in fact I watch, to my dismay and horro, that there are so many old people in their BIG cars that can only do just under 40mph (in a 50 zone) from Ryde towards Brading, and when they get to Brading, which is ONLY 20mph, they carry on through at 30mph, SPEEDING!!!
So where is the logic that says only bikers speed and drive carelessly and dangerously???
